Bio Highlights

I was born in Massachusetts, but my family moved to Lodi, CA when I was 7. I graduated with a BS in Computer Science from CSU, Chico, broke as most coming out of college. I had an offer to stay in Las Vegas, planning to work in casinos till getting money to move. However, I was hired the first month at EG&G/Energy Measurements, a company that supported the Nevada Test Site. At first I programmed, coding drivers for a plotter, Pandora, an aptly named program, that processed Atomic Test data, supported admin data for EG&G personnel including at Los Alamos, Livermore Lab, and Andrews AF Base.

After a few years I joined EG&G’s Remote Sensing Lab (RSL) doing large area radiation surveys around the US with detectors on helicopters and a data van full of computers and plotters. After the Three Mile Island and Operation Morning Light incidents, a Nuclear Emergency Search Team was created, where we partnered with EPA, DOE, DOD, FBI, FEMA states, military bases, and NASA in the case of a nuclear disaster. When the DOE decided not to give contracts to any company who had the contract for more than 30 years, EG&G/EM didn’t waste their money rebidding the contract. Las Vegas had grown to over 1 Million people and after 22 years, I was ready to move, and did move to Dayton NV. I wanted to take some time off but thought I’d try unemployment, but I interviewed for a job at the LCB, not getting that job, but offered a contract in the IT section getting the computers ready for the 1997 Legislative session. During session I was hired full time and stayed for 18 years. I worked on the Front Desk system, PLC, network servers, software support and more. When I inherited the default position of network manager it didn’t suit me, so when the BASN budgeting system manager retired, I took that position, which still allowed me to help computer setups, the website, and general support functions.

With BASN I worked closely with the Fiscal Division, including the Tax Group. Over the next eight sessions I learned a lot about budgets and bills and how the data worked so I could pull needed data straight from the database. During session, when all systems were working smoothly, I found it interesting to watch a variety of committee hearings and Chamber Sessions. Although Mark Twain said you should never see laws being made, I found it fascination. I retired at the end of 2014.

Elsewhere, I have been in officer roles at the Friends of the Dayton Valley Library since 1996, at the Historical Society of Dayton Valley, AAUW (American Association of University Women) Captial Branch, Lyon County Democratic Central Committee, and currently recent Past State President of RPEN (Retired Public Employees of Nevada), whose main mission is to advocate for the preservation of NVPERS and retiree benefits. Recently I became treasurer of the newly formed Dayton Main Street, whose mission is to

In my capacity as RPEN President I have lobbied and testified in committees on behalf of RPEN members.

I believe in the USA, the Constitution as our guiding document, the Bill of Rights, and the State of Nevada. I love our history and traveling to new places in the state. Our Rural and Frontier areas have a wealth of history and unique opportunities and I intend to fight for our rurals to gt enough resources to support a thriving economy without losing our character
